Planning with Pigeon

So this happened today!

The Pigeon!  Need I say more?  Mo Willem's character, The Pigeon, and I have been collaborating on plans for Take Your Child to the Library Day on February 7th.

We have some great fun planned for our community.  But with all the snow here in New England and all the work we have to do... the Pigeon has been perching, squatting, hanging at my house.

So I told him today that he needed to make the bed before we went out.
Yo, Pigeon, we need to clean up a bit and make our beds today.

Yes, I'm talking to you.
It's time to make the bed...please....!

What's that?

You don't know how to make the bed?
Come on...just give it a try.

What now?

You thought and thought and thought about it
and you still don't know how to make the bed?

Okay, I'll help

Please just stay right there and then we'll head out to the grocery store.
More snow is coming tonight.

Pigeon...Pigeon...hey dude...where are you?  It's time to go...

PIGEON?  NOOOooooo......

P.S.(Piper Script): All's well now. They're watching the Super Bowl...Jane's picked the Pats and Pigeon is cheering for the SeaHawks, of course!  Birds of a feather...and all that!

Take Your Child to the Library Day meets Pigeon!

Pigeon Party!

The event is February 7th, 2015 and we have Mo Willem's Pigeon taking it to the next level.  At the request of said Pigeon we will even have a theme song.  Do you know Go Fish, Party Like a Preschooler?  The Crazy Dance song on that CD will from-here-on be known as The PIGEON DANCE!  What can I say? He's a pushy pigeon!

As our plans develop I am loving this day more and more.  Yesterday I worked on creating the 5 Little Pigeons Jumping on the Bed.  I will need to make them a very cool bed as well.  Here are some photos of my flannel process:
Pigeon Shadows
(Which makes me think - Why a Groundhog on Feb 2nd when Pigeon is way cooler?)

Two little pigeons jumping on the bed!

Crafting this flannel set has been a blast.  They make me so happy and I am finding my inner pigeon voice. It's very sassy!  Of course!

The program will include "Feed the Pigeon"  He's looking for cookies.  Check him out!

It's a bean bag toss!

There is one thing I need from Pigeon before we can get-our-party going, but he's not cooperating.  Hmmm.

Honestly...what's a librarian to do?  Advice?  Anyone?

As always, we are grateful to the creative crew at Flannel Friday.  Their inspiration is awesome.  And many thanks again to ~K~ who inspired my flannel pigeons with her blog post.

P.S. (Piper Script) :  I'm ready to Party Like a Pigeon!!!! If you would like to join this international event please click here for info and registration

Take your Child to the Library Day

Take your Child to the Library Day!
from the tiny state of Connecticut comes
A Very Large Initiative!

Art created by CT author/illustrator Nancy Elizabeth Wallace

Join the movement, BIG or small, make that step - there's still time!

There's also a Face Book page - just click

This year Piper and I have enlisted the help of Pigeon...you know...The Pigeon...mo willems' infamous character!  Yes, I wrote infamous!  We're inviting you to join us for Take Your Child to the Library Day but you should be warned...it will be all about the Pigeon.  And by that I mean ALL. ABOUT. The PIGEON.!!!

We'll be offering a library open house with refreshments from 10am til noon on February 7th.  Our teen volunteers will assist with fun-for-the-family games:
Follow the footprints and find the Pigeon
Feed the Pigeon, (bean bag aka hotdog toss!)
5 Little Pigeons jumping on the flannel board bed
a make and take Pigeon puppet.

If you follow our blog you know that we make lots of art in our little branch. Feb 7th is the day to bring both your little artist and your inner artist to our library.  We will have a community art project to decorate the library, we love these.

So, now you know.  It's time to celebrate the library.  Plan some fun at your library or visit a library.  The Take Your Child to the Library blog has a list of participating libraries, click here.

And feel free to run with the Pigeon...I mean fly with the Pigeon idea.  There are coloring pages and mazes available on line with Hyperion  Thanks for visiting Piper Loves the Library.  We both love Pigeon and his amazing creator...Mo Willems.

P.S. (Piper Script) We'd love to know what you're doing for Take Your Child to the Library Day.  Leave a comment.

Many thanks to Flannel Friday ...best group ever!  Oh and please go
check out the Storytime ABC blog for the Pigeons Jumping on the Bed!  Hopefully mine will look as good!

Flannel Friday Ducklings!

Move over Little White Duck, you've got some company!  So, my Five Little Ducks were hanging around Story Time with The Little White Duck flannel pieces listening to mo willem's new book - The Duckling Gets a Cookie!?  and before I knew it...my ducks were "willem-ized"...take a look!

Now, if you haven't read the book, here's my advice...
Don't let the Pigeon hide this book!!

If you really want your ducks to
look "mo" like mo willems' duck
- just change the eye.  Like this:

You may want to make a 6th little duck...the "Duckling"
Here's the template - have fun!!!

Oh, and here's the rhyme done as a song!

The "Pigeon" is very popular in our library...these are all MUST READS.

P.S. (Piper Script)  I'm thinking....
"The Piper wants a Pigeon" is a good title!
or better yet
"The Piper wants a Duckling!"
ut-oh!

Meet Bo! The Presidential Puppy!

Bo, the Presidential Puppy has made a TOP SECRET trip to the Library!!   This is very exciting for the staff as well as all of the library families.  Isn't he great?  He snuggles and he cuddles and he is very smart.

He is our newest very real puppet and he will make his debut during our Spring Story Time Session!  We can't wait.  You may already know about this book, it's his favorite!

We looked at many of the library books about dogs and we decided to share this book at Bo's first story time.

Although this one is very entertaining!

Holy smokes!  Look at this...I think I know where he wants to go!!!  Didn't I tell you he's smart?!

''

We'll see you at the library.  Check out some of the dog books, you'll love 'em!

Piper hasn't met Bo yet...so let's still keep this
Top Secret!
